Online , but what about 'Feedback'

The OLA drive to office this morning was great.  Pick up was within the stipulated time, driver was courteous and professional, car was clean and air-conditioned and the music played was tasteful. Though the route is a familiar one, the drive through bad roads and terrible traffic points was negotiated well and I felt safe and was comfortable all the way through.  Wow, it was the same on the UBER last week too.  The online taxis now don't cost much more than the auto-rickshaws either. So that's great value for money right there.  I remember when I caught the rick a few months back and the way the guy drove me through the roads and potholes and how narrowly we avoided the other vehicles and people on the roads.  And the last straw was on the fare, without even bothering with the meter reading, I was asked an amount that was not lets say 'value'. I also see the private buses here whizzing past everything and everyone, I am sure even with all the stops they can ...

My post at CIOREVIEWINDIA Magazine - SaaS ( Aug 2017)

Smart SaaS https://www.cioreviewindia.com/magazines/saas-startups-special-august-2017/ SaaS has come a long way and has truly become the first port of call for meeting the compute, business solution needs for startups and SMEs. The evolution has been strong and it has now proven itself against the naysayers who earlier cried foul over security, privacy, availability and reliability concerns. The truth now is that SaaS is pushing the tech envelope and adopting the cloud, cyber security and technology platform trends. SaaS solution vendors are providing ever increasing business confidence with tiered Service Level Agreements, Data protection commitments and standards compliant Information Security protection practices. With AI and Automation, RPA (robotic process automation) and bots, the next stage of evolution is upon us and it is an exciting time. Gone are the days where system did only what they were told, now machine learning capabilities that are aligned with a...

A Digital Transformation reality check

Its become trendy to speak transformation, and it is getting more and more rampant. It has been so for a while now that we notice everyone prefixing pretty much everything with the term Digital as a mandatory condition.  So what is this all about anyway?    Is it a band wagon that you must get on without questioning? With the rapid changes in technology, and greater consumerization of technology, businesses have found themselves being left behind the customers and the digital transformation effort help the organization adapt the latest in technology faster.  The primary reason is to stay innovative, retain customers and serve the business and customer needs with efficiency.  Here is where it gets interesting, if it is treated as an initiative or a project, then it has a beginning and an end.  But fact is, it has to be on going.  Because the moment you stop, the world has moved on again and you are at risk of sliding into legacy. ...

What we deserve

I look at my day gone past.  The early morning walk to the bus stop with the kids is a lovely experience.  It used to bother me but now I realized I am not whining much while walking. We carefully pick our way for this 40-meter trudge, avoiding the dirt, and expertly walking over uneven sand, dirt, stones and part paved roads.   This is when alarm bells begin to ring, it’s the state highway,  we are in the city’s central district area, yet why isn’t the road better, the pavements walk-able, the garbage not cleared. Imagine the rest of the state. We have learned to accept that this is the norm, we have been conditioned to think bad roads and dirt and garbage on the street sides and undisciplined driving and behavior is part of our culture almost.  NO, NO its not, as citizens we are being dumb and stupid. Is this what we deserve?  Is this what we pay for? Are we getting value? Are the Government officers, Public works departments doing their jo...

Sam sung Note 8

Sam Sung Note 8 I came across this fantastic joke - >  Once upon a time, in the magical fantasy kingdom, there lived a young monk named Sam. (https://www.reddit.com/r/Jokes/comments/6nb0uo/once_upon_a_time_in_the_magical_fantasy_kingdom/)  His order was renowned for their beautiful choral singing. They trained, hours every day, refining their voices and their art. Their song floated down the mountainside, enriching the lives and souls of the townspeople below. Sam was particularly gifted, and on his 19th birthday, in mid-song, he hit upon a beautifully intricate note of pure magic. Everyone within miles just froze in mid action, stirred to the very core of their souls by the pure bliss of the tone. And all the realm realized, instantly, that it was Sam, and Sam was the first person in history to hit one of the rumored Magical Notes that musicians had theorized must exist... yet no one before Sam had ever reached one. And on Sam's 20th birthday, it happened a...

The best place to live in

I have been seeing quite a few lists of places that are ranked the best to live in. Typically Canada, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand tend to crowd the top of the list. And surprisingly I don’t see the popular cities like New York, Paris, London, Tokyo etc. on the list.  Fortunately, I have been to all these places but I spent most time in Dubai, and that does not figure anywhere near the top either. Right now, I am trying to get my head around these rankings and what it means to me. Mercer looks at Quality of living and others consider similar important criteria. It’s all important but clearly while city infrastructure carries more weight for some, the arts scene is a must have for others, schools and education, sports, social and cultural expressions, safety, affordability, health care and even weather has significance. Wouldn’t it be great to just go live in the best place? Perhaps, the new generation of young successful professionals and entrepreneurs could do ...

The Beach - by Nathan

The Beach As the golden rays of the sun illuminated the turquoise water, I stood mesmerised by the picture that had unfolded before my eyes. The frothy brine lapped my feet and droplets of water hitched a ride on my back. It was as if heaven had fallen to earth. Waves of awe and peacefulness coursed through my body as I gazed upon the image once again. I could see the silhouettes of the rocks jutting out from the sandy terrain. The lush trees swirled in complicated patterns forever leaving me in awe of god’s creation. Wisps of life darted in and out of crevices in between the delicate colours. by  Nathaniel George  ( my 11 year old super-nephew and believe me all my nephews are "super")

My post at CIO REVIEW INDIA Magazine - APM (May 2017)

APM - Online, @ Speed and Secure APPLICATION PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT   >> https://application-performance-management.cioreviewindia.com/cioviewpoint/apm-online-speed-and-secure-nid-3111-cid-120.html Business today is expected to be Online, at Speed and Secure. Now that implies a lot of things from a business and technical perspective and the true winners today are able to balance these elements tactically and strategically and create winning business models. Taking a couple of steps back, and starting at performance management every business wants to know how well they are doing. Revenue or sales numbers are the catchiest and easy to the eyes and simple minds. Server Infrastructure health, bandwidth and utilization statistics are nerdy and borderline gibberish to most stakeholders. But in this vast chasm we have positioned APM as a lighthouse to help provide a mechanism to monitor and manage the key business enabling services. Garter’s definition of APM b...

Just great

Let me share what I stumbled on today in my search for relevance and significance :  today i see most kids easily associate with famous personalities. Young impressionable minds who do not think a lot anymore as the minds are quickly kept busy by tv, music, smartphones etc. And more troubling to see elders too falling for 'fame'. The desire and inclination to achieve fame is a goal that is not always overt but a forceful driver seen from choices made in life.  Quicker, Easier though Fleeting vs  Citius, Altius, Fortius, which is Latin for "Faster, Higher, Stronger".  Living up to the Olympic motto requires time, effort and it has to be earned but that is how 'greatness' is - but how many want that any more. Being famous is a validation and acceptance by many, the root is there, and thats what everybody wants - to be loved , cheered, accepted, appreciated by many .. and thats where we fall into the same trap that Satan laid for Jesus after his 40 days fasting ...
